    Course Objective: This is a graduate level course in fluid flow and transport processes in porous media. We study the various conceptual and mathematical models to describe and investigate porous media, together with relevant single and multi-phase transport phenomena. In statistical physics and mathematics, percolation theory describes the behavior of a network when nodes or links are removed. This is a type of phase transition, since at a critical fraction of removal the network breaks into connected clusters. The applications of percolation theory to materials science and in many other disciplines are discussed here and in the articles network .

    This monograph presents, for the first time, a unified and comprehensive introduction to some of the basic transport properties of porous media, such as electrical and hydraulic conductivity, air permeability and diffusion. The approach is based on critical path analysis and the scaling of. transport theory considerations, in terms of dimensionless variables.
